During the vibrant Consensus Week in Hong Kong — a crypto-powered celebration of blockchain and Web3 innovation — an extraordinary event unfolded at the historic Tai Kwun venue. Giants of the crypto and Web3 space, including Animoca Brands, TGG Enterprise and Galaxy Digital, came together and invited 300 friends who were all giants in their fields (mostly investors and web3 architects from all over the world) to celebrate the unprecedented tokenization of a 300-year-old Stradivarius violin: the Empress Caterina.
This world-first initiative marked a significant milestone for the intersection of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and cultural heritage, showcasing the transformative potential of blockchain technology in democratizing ownership of rare and valuable items. The night was crowned by an emotional performance by Jing Wang, concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, who played the Empress Caterina before an audience of 300 attendees.
A Stradivarius for the Blockchain Era
The Stradivarius, called the Empress Caterina, was formerly owned by Empress Catherine the Great of Russia and is now immortalized on the blockchain. The instrument's current owner, Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands, spearheaded its tokenization. Siu, whose mother was a top-level musician, has long held a personal connection to music and is an advocate for empowering musicians through technology.
Through RWA tokenization, the Empress Caterina is now co-owned by multiple artists via blockchain-based fractionalization. This innovative model provides musicians and collectors with equitable access to a shared piece of history while enabling the instrument to remain in active use rather than locked away in private collections.
In his opening remarks, Yat Siu said, “This is not just about tokenizing an object. It’s about giving musicians greater autonomy, creating new revenue streams, and ensuring that cultural treasures like the Empress Caterina are preserved and shared with the world.”
Galaxy’s Commitment to Hong Kong as a Web3 Hub
Michael Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, had his COO John Cahill led the celebration, using the occasion to announce Galaxy’s expansion in Hong Kong. The firm recently opened an office in the city with a team of 42, reinforcing its commitment to Hong Kong as a leading hub for blockchain innovation in the region.
“Hong Kong has always been at the center of global finance, and now it’s becoming a leader in Web3 and crypto,” Novogratz stated. “With projects like the tokenization of the Empress Caterina, we’re seeing how technology can bridge the gap between art, culture, and finance.”
Galaxy played a critical role in facilitating the tokenization process and continues to lead the charge in integrating blockchain into traditional sectors.
TGG’s Vision of Tokenized Brilliance
TGG, a private investment firm known for its forward-thinking approach, was another key collaborator in this project. The firm is on a mission to tokenize brilliance by leveraging blockchain to breathe new life into heritage, art, and legacy collectibles.
“This project is a perfect example of how Web3 innovation can inspire people and create impactful legacies,” remarked Barry Lau. “By tokenizing iconic items like the Empress Caterina, we’re not only preserving their history but also making them accessible and relevant in the modern world.”
TGG emphasized that this event is just the beginning, with plans to expand into tokenizing other high-value assets, such as jewelry, antiques, and fine art, to create shared ownership models and inspire future generations. TGG has been investing in web3 and AI infrastructure for the advent of this technological revolution! “We are committed to this space and have invested heavily with a brilliant team of experts who have launched a Eur denominated stable coin, Readies, and established a licenced and regulated crypto exchange Finexeble in Czech Republic. Payment in a secure manner is critical.”
A Performance to Remember
The highlight of the evening was the emotional performance by Jing Wang, the concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, accompanied by pianist Warren Lee. Wang played the Empress Caterina in a program that included works by César Franck, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His performance captivated the audience, bringing the Stradivarius to life in a way that resonated deeply with attendees.
“Playing the Empress Caterina tonight was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Wang said, visibly moved. “This instrument holds centuries of history, and now, thanks to technology, it also holds the promise of a new future for musicians around the world.”

Consensus Week: Hong Kong Shines as a Web3 Leader
The event was a centerpiece of Consensus Week, a crypto-focused series of events drawing global attention to Hong Kong as a leader in blockchain and Web3 innovation. With numerous conferences, exhibitions, and private gatherings happening across the city, the week underscored Hong Kong’s role as a hub for cutting-edge technology and cultural integration.
The tokenization of the Empress Caterina reflects the city’s forward-thinking vision and its ability to bring together the worlds of finance, art, and technology.
Looking Ahead
The collaboration between Animoca Brands, Galaxy, and TGG highlights the immense potential of blockchain in reshaping traditional models of ownership and access. With a shared commitment to innovation and cultural preservation, these organizations are paving the way for a future where technology and art coexist harmoniously.
Alex Wan of PCG remarked, “The Empress Caterina is more than an instrument—it’s a symbol of what’s possible when technology meets passion.”
With projects like these, the world is witnessing the dawn of a new era for the arts, driven by the vision and creativity of leaders like TGG, Animoca Brands, and Galaxy. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a groundbreaking journey into tokenized brilliance.
